Cucine(s)

Backed by Compagnie Facchini & Cie, Cucine(s) is an artistic and culinary creation that paints a delicate portrait of a territory through an exploration of cuisine, recipes and popular gastronomy with local flavours, handing down of recipes, memories and conviviality.

Normally, Floriane Facchini and her company meet with residents at their homes to cook their favourite recipe together. From one encounter to the next, the company draws up a portrait of each participant, to which they attach their shared recipe.

On the 8th July 2021, before work at Place de Ninove began, and on the 8th July 2022, upon completion of the works, the company invited the neighbourhood’s residents to a large banquet. The first Grande Tablée took place in the style of a pot luck dinner, while the second offered participants the opportunity to taste some of the recipes collected, remade as vegan by chef Thècles Dubuis.

Under the linden trees, which were preserved thanks to the campaigning of the residents, the Grandes Tablées brought together artists, residents, associations and shopkeepers for a moment of sharing and community.

These various meetings and the numerous recipes shared have added a new dimension to the company’s initial project, which is constantly evolving. A book will soon be published containing these many shared recipes!

The pandemic put a spanner in the works, however, and the company had to come up with a new way of meeting people. Based in France, they travelled on-site five times, asking the cultural department’s coordination team to put them in contact with the region via local associations and residents.

From January 2021, Floriane Facchini & Co met with LD3 Forum, then with thenon-profit organisation Convivence and Habitat & Rénovation.

In May 2021, the company was able to properly meet the residents during collective cooking sessions held in the public space and on the premises of the non-profit organisations it had met with previously.  These occasions gave residents the opportunity to share their favourite recipes and the company was able to create culinary portraits of the participants.
