GARAGE FRISKO

Incomplete multi-installation

Shady Systems – Habitat et Rénovation – Camille Thiry – Ema Tytgat

4th and 5th October

16pm > 19pm

Rue des Visitandines 1, 1000 Brussels

Camille Thiry, Ema Tytgat, Habitat et Rénovation (Les Marolles district), the residents of 1 Rue des Visitandines (and+) and Shady Systems are co-creating a new space: GARAGE FRISKO.

In just 5 months, this space at the foot of the Visitandines has been transformed into a MULTI-MODULAR GARAGE.

Multi-purpose facility: with individual, retractable spaces. Personal installations together form a comfortable, polymorphous garage.

The aim?  To reclaim rest with softness and hardness. No hierarchy of materials.

A multi-pronged collaboration that began with three questions to local residents: Do you get time to rest? Do you do things (just) for yourself? Where’s your cosy spot?

For two evenings of Art+people, you’re all invited:

Browse the FRISKO GARAGE, our rest station.

Come and sit down and enjoy the view of the Hotel Gergana Beach, close the blinds and tuck yourself away to read, eat a frisko or dance the CHA-CHACHA with nobody watching.

About

Camille Thiry is an artistic consultant. Her practice lies at the crossroads of plastic and visual arts and social design.  Driven by questions of legitimacy, communal areas and their obstacles, she prefers solid encounters to abstract concepts. In 2023, she co-founded Shady Systems, a platform for multiform experimentation.

Ema Tytgat

Passionate about the anthropology of memory and visual art, her artistic research began in these fields. Driven by the new narratives, she has positioned herself as a travelling intermediary to encourage a wide spectrum of expression. She sees creation as a social process, in which we collectively construct ethical, urgent, critical and fantasist forms. Her approach is based on doubt and endless research. She considers the post-museum in its diversity of expressions and inclusivity, in order to reshape the way in which art and culture are presented, interpreted and shared in our society – together.

Shady Systems

Shady Systems is a multiform experimentation platform. By co-constructing non-rigid spaces, Shady tests methodologies on specific sites. Its four pairs of shoulders move through the space, creating new forms with the surroundings and its users

Habitat et Rénovation (3 SCPs in the Les Marolles district)

Habitat & Rénovation (HR), which has been active since 1988, is a non-profit association whose aim is to contribute to sustainable urban living through the development of decent, affordable housing and the development of local resources. HR achieves its social aims by means of two major operational programmes: the territory programme and the housing programme. On the one hand, it implements urban social development initiatives in ‘precarious’ neighbourhoods and, on the other, it establishes housing projects and services.
