Taking the form of an exhibition, À travers les Marolles retraces the documentary immersion of the same name by photographer and urban planner Alexia Rincé.
For several months, Alexia, working on behalf of Mahaut, travelled around Les Marolles to shine the spotlight on its inhabitants, workers, children and senior citizens. Through the eyes of the people who live there, À travers les Marolles explores the unique soul of this district through film photography, objects and texts. It highlights the spirit of diversity and welcome that gives Les Marolles its status as the symbolic heart of Brussels.
Alexia is a member of the Mahaut collective, formed with Pauline Cabrit, who is herself an illustrator and urban planner.

Before taking the form of an exhibition, A travers les Marolles is first and foremost a subjective documentary and photographic immersion. By meeting a wide range of people and structures, Alexia Rincé has been able to capture fragments of the essence of Les Marolles. The documentary was broadcast digitally and can be viewed here.
About the artist
Alexia Rincé specialises in documentary photography, with a particular interest in exploring urban dynamics, drawing on her expertise in urban planning to guide her approach. She prefers to work with film, because the material of camera film offers the extra sensitivity needed to understand the spirit of the places she studies. Her approach seeks to reveal the intrinsically intertwined interactions and relationships between individuals and the spaces they pass through and inhabit.
Alexia is a member of MAHAUT, a creative urban planning agency. Established by herself and Pauline Cabrit, MAHAUT came into being thanks to the desire of its founders to produce sensitive accounts of the urban world, and thus to break out of the technical ruts in which this field is often confined. MAHAUT endeavours to tell the story of the city as seen by the people who live in it.
